Bhopal is the capital city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and the administrative headquarters of both Bhopal district and Bhopal division.

 It is known as the City of Lakes.

 It is the 16th largest city in India and 131st in the world.

Places of interest-

-Bhimbetka pre-historic rock cave painting near Bhopal include 500 sandstone caves and shelters. These are dated to range from 12,000 years ago to chalcolithic era of human history. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

-Van Vihar National Park is a national park in central India.

-Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) or National Museum of Humankind or Museum of Man is an anthropology museum to present an integrated story of the evolution of man and culture with special reference to India.

Taj-ul-Masajid is the largest mosque in India and one of the largest mosques in Asia .

-Taj Mahal is a palace built by Sultan Shah Jahan, Begum of Bhopal. It is located beside the Taj-ul-Masajid in Bhopal, India.

Master Control Facility (MCF) is a facility set up by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the city of Hassan ,Bhopal .

- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is an Indian government owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise based in New Delhi, India. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Heavy IndustriesGovernment of India. Established in 1956, BHEL is India's largest power generation equipment manufacturer.

AMPRI- The Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute, Bhopal, formerly known as the Regional Research Laboratory, is a research laboratory in BhopalMadhya Pradesh in India.

-IISER-B -Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal is an autonomous public university  to incorporate research in basic science at undergraduate and graduate level. It is an autonomous institution awarding its own degrees.

-MANIT -Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal  is National Institutes of Technology. It is named after the Independent India's first Minister of Education, scholar and independence activist Abul Kalam Azad who is commonly remembered as Maulana Azad.

-SPA-The School of Planning and Architectureis a higher education institute specializing in education and research in the field of Urban Planning, Architecture and Design. It is one of the Institutes of National Importance of MoE India along with IITs, NITs and AIIMS.

- National Law Institute University (NLIU) is a public law school and a National Law University located in BhopalIndia.

Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM is an autonomousNatural Resource Service training institute of Forestry .

NIDMP-National Institute of Design, Madhya Pradesh is an autonomous educational institute situated in BhopalMadhya Pradesh.

-Indian Institute of Information Technology is one among the 20 IIITs established under the non-profit Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is presently functioning inside the campus of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology.

Bhopal disaster

The city attracted international attention in December 1984 after the Bhopal disaster, when a Union Carbide pesticide manufacturing plant (now owned by Dow Chemical Company) leaked a mixture of deadly gases composed mainly of methyl isocyanate, leading to one of the worst industrial disasters in the world's history.

Smart Cities Mission-

Bhopal was selected as one of the first twenty Indian cities (the first phase) to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.

Cleanest state capital city in India

 Bhopal was also rated as the cleanest state capital city in India for three consecutive years, 2017, 2018 and 2019 .

Elevation-

Bhopal has an average elevation of 500 metres (1401 ft) and is located in the central part of India, just north of the upper limit of the Vindhya mountain ranges.

Climate

Bhopal has a humid subtropical climate, with cool, dry winters, a hot summer and a humid monsoon season

Population of the Bhopal-

According to the 2011 census, the population of the Bhopal city (the area under Bhopal Municipal Corporation) is 1,798,218.

Effective literacy rate-

The total effective literacy rate (for population aged 7+ years) was 85.24%, with male and female literacy respectively at 89.2% and 80.1%.

Tahseal in bhopal-

The Bhopal district has three tehsils: Berasia Kolar and Huzur. There are two community development blocks: Berasia and Phanda. 

Assembly seats-

Bhopal district elects seven seats to the Assembly.

The city is represented in the parliament by Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, with Pragya Singh Thakur

The economy of Bhopal

The economy of Bhopal is heavily industrial based with pharmaceutical, automobile, textile, and production of electrical goods mostly being prevalent.

 While nominal GDP of Bhopal District was Rs. 30,467 crores for the year 2016-17 with a per-capita GDP of INR 1,04,829 as per the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (Madhya Pradesh).

Handicrafts, like zardozi and batua (a small string purse, usually used with Indian traditional dresses) are some of the products of the Old City.

Bhopal is also home to the,DBL , DB Corp .

IT Park, near Bhopal Airport, houses various software development companies and the city is expected to further enlarge its IT presence in near future with giants like WIPRO intending to establish software development centre in the city.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India, has a unit in Bhopal. It occupies a large area in the Eastern Part of the city and maintains a suburb named after it. A majority of the residents of the BHEL Suburb are employed by the unit.

Mandideep is an industrial suburb of Bhopal. It is located to the south of the city on the NH 12.

 Manufacturing units in Mandideep include HEG Limited, Procter & Gamble, Lupin Limited, Eicher Tractors, Insulators and Electricals Limited, Tafe Motors And Tractors Limited, B. S. Engineering Works, etc.

International connectivity-

Air-

The Raja Bhoj International Airport is located near the suburb of Sant Hirdaram Nagar (formerly known as Bairagarh) and is the primary airport serving the state of Madhya Pradesh, India

Roads

National Highway 46 forms a ring-road around Bhopal .

An interstate bus terminus inaugurated in 2011, the Kushabhau Thakre Inter State Bus Terminal is located near the Habibganj railway station .

Railways-

Bhopal lies in the West Central Railway Zone .

Bhopal Junction-The main stations of Bhopal are the Bhopal Junction station and Bhopal Habibganj station.

Rani Kamlapati Railway Station(Habibganj station)–is the Ist station in India to be developed on PPP Model.

The Bhoj Metro /Bhopal Metro) is an under construction rapid transit system intended to serve the city of Bhopal, India, the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

 On 1 May 2019, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave in-principle approval to fund the Bhopal Metro project. The Union Government will stand as guarantor for the loan

Famous personalities-

- Mohamed BarakatullahBhopali, known with his honorific as Maulana Barkatullah  was an Indian revolutionary .

 He was one of the founders of the Ghadar Party in 1913 at San Francisco. Later he became the first prime minister of the Provisional Government of India established on 1 December 1915 in Kabul with Raja Mahendra Pratap as its president.

-Shankar DayalSharma  was the ninth president of India, serving from 1992 to 1997. 

-Raghuram GovindaRajan  an Indian economist

He was Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.

He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India .

-Javed Akhtar is an Indian poet, lyricist, screenwriter and political activist. Known for his work in Hindi cinema, he has won five National Film Awards, and the Padma Bhushan .

 Akhtar was recognized as a duo Salim–Javed was famous for Deewar and Sholay .

-Mr. DilipSuryavanshi  - Founder of DilipBuildcon Limited (DBL) is a construction and infrastructure development company .

 The company is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) .
