Ebbs & Tides

Ebbs & Tides

Ebbs & Tides-उतार और ज्वार

Tides – Rise in the sea water because of the gravitational force of moon as well as sun is known as tides.

Ebbs – The downfall in the water level is known as Ebbs.

Types of tide:- There are two types of tide

Spring tide

When there is good amount of gravitational pull and hence rise in water is known

as spring tide.

Spring tide always comes on new moon (M1) and Full Moon (M3) .

If Sun, Moon and earth are in straight line.

Larger Spring tide will come on Full Moon (M3) days.

Neap tide

When the water rise is less, then it is known as neap tide.

This tide alwayscome on M 2 and M 4.

The difference between the two tides?

The difference between the two tides at a place is …..12 hrs 26 min in a day. In one day, there are two tides at a place.

In the first time, When it is close to the moon and  second time, when it is opposite to the moon .

Earth has to rotate …52 minutes more in order……. to reach at the same tidal centre .

Hence at the same tidal centre, the tide comes after 12 hr 26 min.

Semi-Diurnal Tide&Diurnal Tide

Semi -Diurnal tide-

Some shorelines experience two almost equal high tides and two low tides each day, called a semi-diurnal tide. Two high and two low waters occur daily and are of relatively similar ranges.

This type is more likely to occur when the moon is over the equator.

Diurnal Tide–

Diurnal tide Some locations experience …..only one high and one low tide each day, called a diurnal tide.

A single high and a single low tide occur each day.

They tend to occur in certain areas when the moon is at its farthest from the equator.

Diurnal tides occur when there is so much interference by continents .

In the Americas, diurnal tides only occur in the Gulf of Mexico and the coast of Alaska.
