Why in news?

Serbia and Kosovo, two nations that were once part of the former Yugoslavia, were fighting  gingerly have ended more than two decades of bitterness and antagonism, at the White House on Sept. 4 ,2020.

US administration officials  helped the two countries signed an “economic relations” deal brokered by President Donald Trump.

 Alluding to the UAE-Israel rapprochement, Trump claimed the agreement had created another “normalization” between two warring nations.

What is Kosovo?

Kosovo is situated to ……South of Serbia. It is an ……autonomous province. Its capital is Pristina. To its South there is ..Albania. Its (Kosovo) 90% population is of Albanian muslims 8% population is of Serbia christens.  is a partially-recognised state and disputed territory .

What was Kosovo –Serbia  war?

Kosovo was an independent province of Serbia, it wanted independence. In its war of independence Albania helped .

In February 2008, Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia.

Which was supported  by Albania.

In June – 08, a new constitution was adopted ….USA, EU like Britain, France, Germany has accepted its independence.

But Serbia ……has not given independence to Kosovo.

Kosovo is a ……UN-governed entity within its sovereign territory.

Does India recognize Kosovo?

India's reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence is one of non-recognition.  This prompted retaliation from the IOC as they threatened to revoke India's bids over 2030 Asian Games and 2032 Summer Olympics.

India however, has maintained a pragmatic approach over Kosovo, which not recognizing but not denying Kosovo's existence, and several Kosovans expressed their interests to have experience to official relations with India.
