United nations conference on Trade and development.

It is an inter-government platform for discussion and deliberation on trade.

Foundation-

It was founded in 1964.

Members-

Currently, 195 nations (all UN members plus UN observer states Palestine and the Holy See) are its members.

Is UNCTAD a part of UN?

UNCTAD is part of the United Nations Secretariat dealing with…. trade, investment, and development issues.

Meetings-

The conference ordinarily meets once every four years;

Secretariat-

The permanent secretariat is in Geneva.

-Goals-

The organization's goals are to: "maximize the trade, investment, and development opportunities of developing countries and assist them in their efforts to integrate into the world economy on an equitable basis".

It also studies how financial, technological, and investment coordination could be increased for sustainable development. From time to time it performs research in this respect.

The 15th UNCTAD quadrennial conference (held every four years:)(UNCTAD-15)

It was held in Barbados from 3 to 8 October 2021.

The member states assess current trade and development issues and formulate global policy responses.

It also sets the organization’s work priorities for the next four years.
